Electricians' Most-Used Tools
To carry out their work, electricians depend on a number of tools that enables them to do their jobs effectively and neatly. They use a variety of hand and power tools, measuring equipment and a constantly growing list of newer tools that make working with electricity simpler and safer.
There are some basic tools that are used everyday, without which electricians simply cannot perform. Electricians always carry around these tools. These tools are spanners, pliers, measuring devices, wire strippers, power drills and drivers, power saws, screwdrivers and nut drivers, labeling machines, fishing tools, hammer and drills.
Some of these tools are constantly used such as side cutting pliers and needle nosed pliers. Screwdrivers and nut drivers are needed to fasten wires to walls and appliances. Wire strippers are used to strip the covering of cables to splice two or more ends of wires. Masking tapes are used to cover bare wire to prevent short circuits. Fish poles are used to pull wire through difficult to reach places such as drop walls, dropped ceilings and raised floors. Measuring tapes are in constant use for simple measurements.
Electricians, to leave labels behind for easy reference for any future use, use labeling machines. Electricians also use lightweight small power tools, easier and safer to carry. Power saws and drills are the most powerful of tools used by electricians. Various sizes of drill bits are carried to use the appropriate sized one at need, which will depend on the job and the material being used.
Besides the power saw and drills, electricians may also need reciprocating saws for some tasks. These are hand held and easy to use. Similarly, spiral saws are also used on occasion.
Electricians also use some other saws. They are cut off saws, portable band saws and hole saws. The last few years have seen a lot of innovation in the tools on offer. They are now lighter, more comfortable to hold and operate and yet just as powerful as before. Many come in a cordless version which enables access to hard-to-reach places. Such innovative tools keep improving the way electricians and other skilled workers perform their tasks.
Electricians need their tools to perform their tasks quickly, safely and effectively. Electricians cannot do without their tools.
